Youngling – Any member of the group under the age of 13. They will mostly practice drills and Forms with rare combat practice with a Knight-Aspirant or higher. Most of their practice is performed with a training saber.
Initiate – A new or recent member of the group that is 13 years old or older. These students will mostly study Form 1 with small introductions to the other Forms from time to time. They will usually be in a larger group-like class until the teacher feels like they have a solid grasp on fundamentals. Once that is determined, they will be presented in front of the head teacher and at least one other council member to decide if they are ready to be “Seasoned.”
Seasoned Initiate – A student that has demonstrated fundamental proficiency of Form 1. These students now have the option to pursue their own solo training and start learning other Forms. In addition, they are also now eligible to be selected by a Knight or Master to become their Padawan.
Padawan – Padawans are Seasoned Initiates with a dedicated instructor. By this time, they will have chosen a primary Form to study and will train with their Master to achieve proficiency in it. They will also build and wear a customized braid on their ear or in their hair. These are to be worn at practice any time the Padawan is not sparring, and at all times during events and appearances. They will also be expected to be able to professionally represent the group from this rank and up.
Seasoned Padawan -These are Padawans that have been studying under their Masters for at least 12 months.
Wanderer – Usually more of a rarity, those with this title are Seasoned Initiates or Padawans that have a very specific Knight or higher level skill in one particular area. For example, if a student performs at an average rate with most aspects of their training, but highly excels in one specific aspect, they might be granted this title.
Knight-Aspirant – These are Seasoned Initiates or Padawans that have shown that they are ready to undergo their trials. Students will also hold this rank while they take their trials.
Knight – Those that hold this rank have passed their trials and proven their skills to the other Knights and the High Council. At this point, they are encouraged to take on a Padawan to continue training the “next generation” of students. From time to time, they will also teach certain classes on their specialized Form. Some will choose to end their training here, while others will go on to pursue their “Master’s Path.”
Battle Proctor – An honorific given to Knights, usually Guardians, who have a high proficiency in 2 or more Forms and are able to effectively teach others.
Lore Keeper – An honorific given to Knights, usually Consulars, that have passed at least 1 edition of the Scholar’s Exam and can demonstrate a high level of lore knowledge in at least 1 specific area of information.
Task Leader – An honorific given to Knights, usually Sentinels, that are deeply involved with the scheduling and planning of group activities and events.
Master – A very prestigious rank indeed! In order for one to reach this rank, they must complete a specific set of tests and trials called “The Master’s Path.” Some of the requirements include: Being a consistent member of the group for at least 18 months, attending and participating in at least 16 Knight trials, and raising at least 2 Padawans to Knighthood. Masters must also have a near-mastery level proficiency of 1 Form, or high proficiency of 2 or more Forms. In addition, Masters are allowed up to 3 Padawans at any given time, provided they want that many and are able to effectively teach them all.
Blade Master – A rare rank given to Form 2 purists. In order to achieve this title, a Master must demonstrate near mastery proficiency of Form 2 to the High Council and at least 2 other Masters.
Battlemaster – A rare rank given to Master-level Battle Proctors. Those with this rank have a high proficiency to near mastery proficiency of every Form of Lightsaber combat and are able to effectively teach others. In addition, the recipient must also have held the rank of Master for at least 2 years.
Lore Master – A rare rank given to Master-level Lore Keepers. Those with this rank have passed every current edition of the Scholar’s Exam and can demonstrate a high level of lore knowledge in several areas of information. In addition, the recipient must also have held the rank of Master for at least 2 years.
Task Master – A rare rank given to Master-level Task Leaders. Those with this rank have helped plan and schedule events and activities for the group for years and are essential for maintaining group stability behind the scenes. In addition, the recipient must also have held the rank of Master for at least 2 years.
Grand Master – One of the rarest ranks of all! A Grand Master is one who has earned significant respect, mastered the art of Lightsaber combat, and proven themselves to be an effective leader to all in the group. There are many different steps that must be reached to achieve this rank that involve a large time investment and a ton of training. To be eligible, one must: hold the rank of Master for at least 10 years, hold the honorifics of Battle Proctor, Lore Keeper, and Task Leader, hold the rank of Battle Master, Lore Master, or Task Master, train at least 10 Padawans to Knighthood, promote at least 5 Knights to Masters, and many others things that would take too long to list.
